Texas Tech Head Men’s Golf Coach Greg Sands and Assistant Coach Nathan Weant will serve as the 2021 Texas Tech Boys Golf Camp lead instructors. Coach Sands is in his 20th season at TTU and Coach Weant, a previous player for the Red Raiders, is in his 1st season. The Texas Tech Men’s Golf Team is coming off one of the best seasons in program history during 2018-19, where they reached as high as a #1 National ranking, and won the Big 12 Match Play Championship. The Tech Coaches will surround themselves with other Coaches and/or current student-athletes to help lead this camp.
Greg Sands-Head Men’s Coach
Greg Sands is regarded as one of the top division 1 golf coaches in the country. In his 20th season as the head coach of the Red Raiders, Sands has seen his program reach the pinnacle of the national ranking during the 2019-20 season when the men’s team reached #1. There are 16 NCAA regional and 8 NCAA Championships berths, a top ten finish in 2010 and 2018, the program’s first two PING All-America First Team honorees in 2006 and 2010. Those are the most visible of the accomplishments Sands has been responsible for since taking over the program in 2001. What falls beneath the radar is Sands’ ability to provide his student-athletes with an outstanding education, reflected in in the fact that the team consistently ranks among the top academic programs in the Big 12 Conference. Most recently Sands and his Red Raiders won the Big 12 Match Play Championship along with 2 other events during the COVID shortened 2019-20 season. Currently the Red Raiders are the only team in the country to have 2 players inside the top 10 in the world amateur golf rankings. Sands has also been announced and will serve as the 2021 Arnold Palmer Cup Captain.
NATHAN WEANT-ASSISTANT MEN’S COACH
Nathan Weant returns to Texas Tech as the new assistant coach after previously playing for Coach Sands and the Red Raiders from 2011-2014.
Weant comes to Lubbock from the University of Louisiana-Monroe. In 2 seasons at ULM the Warhawks saw the program set 22 school records while winning 3 tournament titles, most notably the Old Waverly Intercollegiate where the school picked up it first ever win over a top 5 ranked opponent. Prior to ULM, Weant was the head golf coach at Indian Hills Community College where the Warriors won 9 team titles including the 2018 NJCAA National Championship. Weant was then named the Dave Williams National Coach of the Year as voted on by his peers.
